Fashion Photography: 'Wonderland' by Kirsty Mitchell

Today, let’s take a walk in the mystical ‘Wonderland’ of Kirsty Mitchell, a storybook without words, an unexplained collection of strange and magical characters, set in the woodlands and landscapes that surrounded her home in Surrey.

Kirsty Mitchell, fashion photographer from Kent, is one of the fashion photographers I truly admired ever since I first saw her works. Following Maureen's death from a brain tumour in 2008, Kirsty channelled her grief into her passion for photography. She retreated behind the lens of her camera and created 'Wonderland', an ethereal fantasy world.

She wanted to mix together her backgrounds in fashion design, costume making, her love of art history and film, as well as her passion for the natural beauty of English landscapes. In short, a melting pot of all her everyday interests, channeled into a very personal tribute to the memory of her mother, and the fairytales she read to her constantly as a child.

This is 'The Storyteller': A reference to Kirsten's English teacher mother, a model sits elegantly on a carpet of bluebells enveloped by books.

Kirsty developed a deep bond and respect for the locations in which she was working and strove, through her pictures, to remind others of their forgotten magic and beauty.

She became fascinated with pockets of wild flowers such as the bluebells that would appear for only a few brief weeks of the year. In some cases, she would wait a full 12 months so she could shoot costumes matched to the vivid colours of nature!

She said her 'aim was to portray time passing, an unsaid journey through four seasons, incorporating every colour in the rainbow'.

This is 'Spirited Away': Blooms stand out against a snowy forest backdrop, a promise of the spring to come.

For more of her work, you can visit her website. To read more about the journey behind each photo shoot, you can check her blog where she goes into detail about the development of each of her imaginative concepts all the way through production.

Very inspiring work! Unlike anything I’ve ever seen! What do you think?

Winter Escape: The Chalet Les Gentianes 1850 in Courchevel, the French Alps

For this weekend, let's pack our suitcase and get away in Courchevel in the French Alps. Yesss!

For those who don't know this location, Courchevel is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world which combines elegance with luxury. Part of the largest ski area in the world, it is a place to see and to be seen in! Courchevel is, without doubt, the premier resort in France. It is synonymous with luxury and is home to some of the very finest chalets in the Alps.

The spectacular chalet Les Gentianes 1850 has an exceptional and unique location in the prestigious resort of Courchevel with its magical atmosphere. A winter-wonderland, surrounded by snow covered trees, it truly is a ski-in ski-out location.

The chalet has been built in a sympathetic alpine style with wood interiors, exposed ceiling beams and a cosy fireplace in the living room.

It also has its own swimming pool, complete with Jacuzzi and steam room.

A place of sublime comfort with natural materials, selected to emphasise the moods, colours and textures of the mountains. Perfect!

A Beautiful Villa in Paradise

My house tour of today is about this stunning villa set in the mythical island, of Capri.

Exposed to breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this jewel of a home is the result of the perfect marriage between clever Architecture and contemporary Art.

The villa is located high in the mountains of the Italian island of Capri, which gives it that authentic bright sunlit aura.

The whitewashed walls, together with the stone floors, set the perfect scene to enhance the select colorful pieces in the decor. It's evident blue is the color of choice as it's the one hue that's present in every room of the house, perhaps inspired by the alluring deep blue sea that surrounds it.

But my favorite feature of all is the impressive stone wall in the shower area that creates a dramatic contrast with the slick design of the bathroom! LOVE!

For me, only 3 words: This is paradise. What do you think?

Have a breezy day,

Supermodel Karlie Kloss Travels to Nicaragua

My today post is about the american model Karlie Kloss for T Magazine'.

For the Winter 2012 issue, the supermodel took a trip to Nicaragua with photographer Ryan McGinley to pose for a stunning set of understated photos set against the country’s beautiful and diverse landscapes.

In Lake Nicaragua, with the island of Ometepe in the distance. She wears Balenciaga.

They ventured to the Masaya Volcano National Park outside of Santiago for the photoshoot to illustrate a Nicaragua travel story

In the shots, the 20-year-old model wears little makeup and her hair looks very undone. Karlie dons simple, airy clothes from Balenciaga, Chloé, Salvatore Ferragamo, Jacobs, Chanel, and sits everywhere from the edge of a volcano to high above the canopy of a rainforest. The photos feel very calming and at the same time adventurous...

With a Marc Jacobs dress

On Maderas Beach. With Chanel swimsuit

At a farm in Marsella. Balenciaga again

High above the canopy at Maderas Village. With a Gucci dress

I am sooo loving this winter issue because of the travel concept! They explored a volcano, vast plunging cliffs, wild animals, lush forest and deserted coastline of the beautiful Nicaragua. Brilliant!

For the first time in our lives, we have a desire to go there! Well done, T!

You can check out the entire amazing story over at the T site.

Have a breezy day,
